Glencairn Museum is honored to welcome the Curtis Chamber Orchestra for a special performance, celebrating the historic ties between the two institutions. This concert is part of Curtis on Tour, the Nina von Maltzahn global touring initiative of the Curtis Institute of Music.

This dynamic, conductor-less ensemble of Curtis Institute of Music’s most talented students is led from the first chair by Minnesota Orchestra concertmaster and Curtis violin faculty member Erin Keefe. The program features Mozart’s masterful Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola, and orchestra, performed by Ms. Keefe and Curtis President and renowned violist Roberto Díaz, alongside beloved works by Samuel Barber and Ludwig van Beethoven.

For over 80 years, the Glencairn Christmas Sing Concert has been a cherished holiday tradition, bringing together families and friends for a magical evening that celebrates music, community, and the spirit of Christmas.

The program features the “Glencairn Horns,” a quintet made up of current and former members of the Philadelphia Orchestra—led by renowned bass trombonist Blair Bollinger, who celebrated his 40th Christmas Sing last year.

Also featured are performances by internationally acclaimed musicians such as violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn and pianist Jungeun Kim, Director of Instrumental Accompaniment at the Curtis Institute of Music. Enjoy the rich, seasonal songs performed by the solo-voice ensemble Les Canards Chantants, and be uplifted by the Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools Concert Choir.

Interwoven throughout the evening are reflective readings from the Christmas story (shared in a peaceful, candlelit setting), a brief message of hope from Bryn Athyn Church clergy, and audience caroling.

Experience the extraordinary artistry of Posaune Decuple (Po-zow-na Dek-yoo-puhl), an adaptation of “Trombone Tenfold,” an all-star trombone ensemble, as they return to Glencairn Museum for another highly anticipated performance.

The ensemble was first formed under the leadership of the late Glenn Dodson, a trombone virtuoso and passionate advocate for elevating the instrument “to the level of chamber music instead of the bombastic image of which it often is thought.” Posaune debuted at Glencairn in 2006 to a standing-room-only crowd. The ensemble features world-class trombonists who have performed with leading orchestras, including those in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Germany, and Brazil. Dodson envisioned the group as a platform to showcase the trombone’s versatility.

Renowned American violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn and acclaimed pianist Derek Wieland are set to return to Glencairn Museum’s stage for an exceptional duo recital this September. Their previous performance in March 2024, which was their first on-stage collaboration since meeting at the Luzerne Music Center in 1989, captivated the sold-out audience.

At Luzerne, Pitcairn and Wieland first joined forces to learn a Brahms Sonata, and they were among several rising stars featured in their New York debuts at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall with the New York String Orchestra in 2000.

For their upcoming concert at Glencairn Museum, Pitcairn and Wieland will once again perform Brahms, specifically the Sonata No. 1 in G major, alongside Mozart’s Sonata No. 22 in A Major, K. 305.

Glencairn is excited to announce the return of violinist Blanca Cecilia González and pianist Jesse Elder. Previously known as 1IN2, the duo has embarked on a new project called Musiquita. A collaborative effort that started shortly after Blanca and Jesse had their second child, they are not only musical partners but life partners as well. Musiquita! is a delightful exploration of Spanish and English music and songs, blending not just music, but also language and culture, to create a joyful celebration suitable for all ages.

Blanca and Jesse have drawn inspiration from various musical sources, combining elements of classical music with jazz, Latin rhythms, original compositions, and diverse popular music styles, as well as incorporating free improvisation. Their live performances are a continuous work in progress, evolving as they make new discoveries.

American violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn returns to the home of her grandfather, Raymond Pitcairn’s brother, Theo Pitcairn, to perform in partnership with the legendary 1720 Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius, which was gifted to her by Theo in her youth.

At the conclusion of this concert, the audience is invited to a reception where light refreshments will be served.

Elizabeth has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and debuted in New York at Alice Tully Hall with the New York String Orchestra. Ms. Pitcairn has since performed at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Fisher Center, and the Kimmel Center. She is the President, CEO, and Artistic Director of the Luzerne Music Center Festival, a summer camp for gifted young musicians ages 9 to 18 in the Adirondacks of New York. She currently resides in Bucks County, PA. Ms. Pitcairn received her degree from the University of Southern California, where she studied with renowned professor Robert Lipsett. Ms. Pitcairn is on the faculty at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. The 10th Anniversary edition DVD of The Red Violin film features Ms. Pitcairn and the Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius in a special feature called “The Auction Block.”

Some of the very best performances from previously recorded versions of the concert will be featured in the 2022 Glencairn Christmas Sing Online Concert program, including selections played by the incomparable “Glencairn Horns,” exquisite instrumentals, rich vocal pieces, and musicians and vocalists collaborating on spirited renditions of festive music beloved by generations of audiences.

New, never-before-seen portions of this virtual offering include powerful readings from the Christmas story, equally inspiring images of the Great and Upper Halls decorated for Christmas, Nativities and Christmas art from the Glencairn Museum collection, along with some history of the “Sing.”

Few texts in history blur the lines between earthly and spiritual as thoughtfully as the Song of Solomon. This biblical poem, sometimes read as both a celebration of romantic love and an allegory of the love between God and the Church, was set to music countless times during the Renaissance.

Solomon’s Vineyard features Leonhard Lechner’s rarely heard German language version of Song of Solomon, Das Hohelied Salomonis, composed in 1606, which has a subtle “joy of life” mirrored in the popular music and poetry of the day. Join us for a tasting of the Song of Solomon and other works inspired by the triple muse of love, life, and good wine, curated by Leonhard Lechner and his teacher, Orlande de Lassus.

Before 5.1 surround sound, there was stereo. Long before both, there was the original surround sound: the polychoral innovations of the 1500s. In a lavish program of music by the finest composers of renaissance polychoral style including Victoria, Palestrina, and Lassus, Les Canards Chantants explores and exploits the acoustical architecture of Glencairn Museum's Great Hall, and offers the audience a truly immersive concert experience. Les Canards Chantants is an American solo-voice ensemble performing renaissance polyphony, praised for their “elegant vocalism” (Philadelphia Inquirer), “finely tuned vocals, robust singing, emotional flexibility, and sense of adventure” (Broad Street Review), and “liveliness and theatricality” (Boston Musical Intelligencer). In collaboration with the Tasso in Music Project, Les Canards Chantants presents Tasso in Ferrara: a musical timeline of celebrated Italian renaissance poet Torquato Tasso’s fruitful and tumultuous years at the court of Duke Alfonso II d'Este in Ferrara. Les Canards Chantants is an American solo-voice ensemble performing renaissance polyphony, and is Glencairn Museum's Ensemble in Residence.

American violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn returns to Glencairn’s Great Hall, to perform in partnership with the legendary 1720 Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius.

Elizabeth Pitcairn has appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and debuted in New York at Alice Tully Hall with the New York String Orchestra. Ms. Pitcairn has since performed at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Fisher Center and the Kimmel Center. She is the President, CEO and Artistic Director of the Luzerne Music Center Festival, a summer camp for gifted young musicians ages 9 to 18 in the Adirondacks of New York. Originally from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, she resides in Los Angeles. Ms. Pitcairn received her degree from the University of Southern California where she studied with renowned professor Robert Lipsett. Ms. Pitcairn is on faculty at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. The 10th Anniversary edition DVD of The Red Violin film features Ms. Pitcairn and the Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius in a special feature called “The Auction Block.”

1in2 is a violin/piano duet that was born out of a great variety of contrasting musical styles and approaches. Blanca Cecilia González (violin) and Jesse Elder (piano) have found a wealth of musical inspiration in their process of marrying elements of classical music with jazz, Latin, original compositions, various popular music styles, and free improvisation. Their live show is a perpetual work in progress, constantly evolving as they make new discoveries.

We hope you can join us for this year's “Glencairn Sing,” an annual concert which was first held in the Great Hall in 1937. The Museum proudly continues the Pitcairn’s tradition with a program that features the “Glencairn Horns,” comprised of current and former members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. The concert will also include Glencairn’s Ensemble in Residence, Les Canards Chantants, soloists, audience caroling, and readings from the Christmas story.
