In this four-day workshop—held on four consecutive Saturdays—participants will learn the fundamentals of traditional stained-glass painting. Working from a photographic reference, students will create their own painted glass panel using historic techniques such as tracing, matting, and silver staining, with opportunities to add personal creative touches. Finished pieces will be kiln-fired to permanently fuse the paint to the glass, then framed in lead and fitted with hooks for display in a window.

Other notes:

  • This workshop will be held at the Doering Center at Bryn Athyn College.

  • Previous experience with drawing or painting is preferable.

  • Please wear closed-toe shoes.

  • Note that attendees will be looking down at a light table for most of the class.

  • Food and drink cannot be consumed in the stained-glass classroom but can be consumed in the main lobby areas of the Doering Center. Attendees are welcome to bring a snack to enjoy during the break and recommended to bring a water bottle with a tightly fitting lid.

About the instructor:

Elizabeth DaCrema graduated from Tyler School of Art in 2016. Since then, she has worked as a stained-glass artist at Beyer Studio, Inc., a prominent stained-glass company in the Philadelphia area specializing in large-scale fabrication and restoration of stained-glass windows. There, DaCrema has been involved in many important projects, such as the restoration of windows from Catholic University and Valley Forge’s Washington Memorial Chapel. Her specialty is classical Bavarian-style glass painting from traditional studios of 20th-century Munich and Philadelphia.
