Make a traditional straw craft ornament you can take home! In Scandinavia, making woven straw ornaments to decorate the house and tree is a beloved Christmas tradition. Participants will learn how to make wreaths and hearts from straw using a variety of techniques. Wheat weaver Kirsten Hansen Gyllenhaal will guide workshop participants through the various stages of each project.
About the instructor:
Kirsten Hansen Gyllenhaal has been practicing the art of wheat weaving for over two decades. She was first introduced to the craft in the 1990s during a hands-on craft event at a museum and soon began pursuing it on her own, refining her skills through books, magazines, and hands-on experimentation. Gyllenhaal has demonstrated and led workshops at museums and has developed an interest in the folk beliefs and symbolism traditionally associated with straw craft.
