Join Glencairn Museum members and staff for a day trip to the Newark Museum of Art (NMOA), New Jersey’s largest fine art museum, founded in 1909 with the then-radical belief that art and learning are for everyone.

We’ll travel in comfort aboard a 56-passenger motorcoach equipped with free WiFi, charging ports at every seat, a restroom, and a PA system. En route, Asian art expert Terri McNichol will provide background on Buddhism to enhance our experience at NMOA.

Upon arrival, half of our group will take part in the Tibetan Art in Depth guided tour, featuring a stunning Buddhist altar created between 1988 and 1991 by Tibetan artist Phuntsok Dorje and consecrated by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The other half will explore the historic Ballantine House through self-guided or audio tours. Built in 1885 by the Ballantine brewing family, this 27-room mansion combines preserved period rooms with gallery spaces exploring Newark’s cultural history and diverse communities.

The groups will then switch tours so that everyone has the opportunity to experience both.

Afterward, attendees can enjoy lunch either at the museum’s on-site café or bring their own. There will also be time to explore more of the museum on your own before we head back to Bryn Athyn.

About the Speaker:
Terri McNichol, President of [Ren Associates](https://renassociates.com/index.html), is an award-winning artist, curator, and former museum director with deep ties to Glencairn Museum. A respected scholar and educator, McNichol taught a survey course in Asian art history to undergraduates at Mercer County Community College for 30 years. She holds a BA in Liberal Arts from Brooklyn College, where she focused on painting, Chinese art, language, and philosophy, and an MA in Asian Art History from New York University.

McNichol’s academic and curatorial work has been shaped by her study of Buddhist art, particularly within the Mahayana tradition of the Gelug school. She studied with Tibetan Buddhist monk Geshe Wangdu at the Rashi Gempil Ling temple, deepening her understanding of the spiritual and cultural context of the artworks she presents. Currently, McNichol is contributing to Glencairn Museum by writing object labels for the Asian Gallery, and we are honored to benefit from her insights and expertise.
