Craftsmanship Program

CRAFTSMANSHIP ON-SITE AT GLENCAIRN MUSEUM

Grades 4–12 | 2 hours

Students get to become the experts as they explore and share the lives and work of five artists who contributed their craftsmanship to create Glencairn in stone, wood, metal, and glass. Putting their new expertise into practice, students work together in guild groups to design the long-lost second Tower of Glencairn! This program will:

  • Introduce students to the lives and work of five craftsmen who worked on Glencairn.

  • Allow students to work collaboratively with their classmates on researching a craftsperson and take on the role of presenting information and guiding the program.

  • Move students through the process of remembering and understanding content, to applying new ideas and creating for themselves.

  • Include an interactive activity time in the Glencairn Studio where students will work collaboratively using a variety of materials to design and build a castle tower, utilizing the craftsmanship knowledge and techniques that they gained during their exploration of the Museum collection.
