Sacred Adornment Program


SACRED ADORNMENT ON-SITE AT GLENCAIRN MUSEUM
Grades 6–12 | 2 hours

What is an adornment? Who was adorned in ancient times, and who is adorned today? What do adornments say about someone? Students will discover the answers to these questions and more in this program focused on the religious meaning of many ancient adornments. This program will:

  • Explore adornment and amulets of Ancient Egypt, the Ancient Near East, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome.

  • Discuss the religious significance of ancient adornments, and the different ways that adornment played a role in the lives of ancient people.

  • Invite students to think about the role that adornment plays in their own lives.

  • Include an interactive activity time in the Glencairn Studio where students will have the chance to create a piece of jewelry that reflects their own identity and values, and draw inspiration from the Glencairn collection.

This version of our Sacred Adornment program comes to you in your classroom or meeting space! Just like our on-site program, this traveling experience brings the world of ancient adornment and jewelry to your students. This program will:
