In 1953, Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn commissioned Bryn Athyn artist Winfred S. Hyatt to design this Christmas card depicting the biblical story of the Annunciation to Mary (Luke 1:26-38). In 1963, after Hyatt had passed away, the Pitcairns returned to the same theme, with a color version of the subject created by Maud Petersham. (View the 1963 card here.)
