On this 1954 Christmas card sent by Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn, the couple is seen unwrapping gifts in Glencairn's Upper Hall, surrounded by holiday decorations. On the wall above them is a life-sized oil painting illustrating the biblical story of the Adoration of the Shepherds (Luke 2:15–20). This painting, created in the 1930s by the artist Frank Snyder, is based on an illustration from the 1931 children's book The Christ Child by Maud and Miska Petersham. Their son, Michael Pitcairn, took the photograph.
