In 1969, the artist Louis Ewald and his wife, Evelyn, sent this Christmas card to Mildred Pitcairn (Raymond, Mildred’s husband, passed away in 1966). The card features Ewald's depiction of the Holy Family, adorned with haloes, situated beneath a stable. Mary and Joseph are shown in prayer, flanking a manger holding the Christ Child. A radiant golden star of Bethlehem shines above them. The wise men on camels appear in the distance on the left, and on the distant right are the shepherds. Ewald, known for his expertise in paintings, murals, gold leafing, and mosaics, served as a designer and decorator for the Pitcairns.
