The Boards and Curtains

Boards and CurtainsThe Tabernacle structure was supported by beams of acacia wood. The fifty beams were each ten cubits high and one and a half cubits wide, entirely coated in gold. They were held upright by silver sockets, and joined together with wooden bars. Twenty beams lined the northern and southern walls of the Tabernacle, and eight lined the west with two supporting beams in the corners on the west side. The walls of the court, on the other hand, consisted of linen hung from pillars, which stood in sockets of bronze.

Four sets of curtains were hung over the Tabernacle itself. Like the metalwork, the four sets of curtains decrease in value as they grow more exterior. The innermost curtains, which were placed directly over the boards of wood, were made of the same four-colored fabric that separated the rooms of the Tabernacle. These four threads, like those on the inner veil of the sanctuary, were woven into elaborate designs of cherubim. The second set of curtains was made of goat's hair, the third of ram's skins, and the fourth of an unknown material.
