Author will share African teachings on relationships at Glencairn Museum

An author and initiated member of the Dagara tribe of West Africa will discuss topics presented in her recent book, “The Spirit of Intimacy: Ancient Teachings in the Ways of Relationships,” at 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at Glencairn Museum in Bryn Athyn.

Sobonfu Somé, whose name translated into English means, “Keeper of the Rituals,” was born and raised in Danco, Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta) in South Africa. She and her husband, Malidoma Patrice Some`, who now live in California, teach the ancient wisdom of their tribe throughout the world.

Described as, “an instinctive and intuitive teacher who works from a deep well of knowledge and of womanhood Spirit,” Somé also is the author of “Welcoming Spirit Home: Ancient Teachings to Celebrate Children and Community.” Her lectures are born from her belief that the traditions and rituals of her tribe have much to teach people throughout the world about community life and spiritual enrichment.

Those attending the lecture will have an opportunity to meet Somé at a reception in the museum’s Great Hall following her address. Admission to the one-hour lecture is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, and $4 for students.

Glencairn, whose collections of art and artifacts illustrate the history of varied religions through the ages, is housed in a 10-story Romanesque mansion at 1001 Cathedral Road at Route 232, Bryn Athyn.
