Glencairn continues 66-year-old tradition with Christmas Concert in Bryn Athyn

Glencairn Museum in Bryn Athyn will continue a tradition begun in 1937 when it hosts a Christmas concert December 16 at 8 p.m.

In 1937, Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn opened the doors of their 10-story mansion, which now houses Glencairn’s galleries and collections, for a “Christmas sing” for family, friends and neighbors.

At the time, Raymond Pitcairn said he and his wife were delighted that the first use of their new home was for an event associated with the “peace and happiness of Christmas time.”

This year’s “Christmas Sing” will be held in the Great Hall of the Romanesque-style building, noted for its stained glass, mosaics and elaborate wood carvings. The evening will feature audience caroling, soloists, including mezzo-soprano Rebecca Oehlers, and a performance by the "Glencairn Horns" from the Philadelphia Orchestra featuring David Bilger, trumpet; Blair Bollinger, bass trombone, Eric Carlson, trombone; Randy Gardner, horn, and Daniel Williams, horn.

Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for museum members and students. Children 5 and under are free. Information: 215-938-2600, www.glencairnmuseum.org.
