Cloister Tea and tours kick off 'Second Sunday' series at Glencairn Museum Glencairn Museum, housed in a 10-story Romanesque mansion in Bryn Athyn, will kick off its “Second Sunday” series Sept. 8 with music and refreshments in the cloister garden and two tours focusing on the history of religion. Tours highlighting “Angels, Devils and Spirits,” and “ Masterpieces of Religious Art,” as well as self-guided tours, will be available during Second Sunday hours, 2-5 p.m. The museum’s galleries offer a view of religious life through the ages with collections of art and artifacts reflecting a diversity of cultures and time periods. Collections include Ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman, medieval Christian, Islamic, Asian and Native American. Among the objets d’art are a scale model of the Tabernacle of Israel, a life-size marble statue of the Roman goddess Minerva-Victoria, a 12th century Spanish ivory of an apostle of Christ, and medieval stained glass and sculpture. The acoustic guitar of Blane Bostock, who was trained in both the classical and jazz traditions, will set the mood in the cloister garden. His eclectic style, a perennial favorite at Glencairn’s cloister teas, reflects the influences of folk, jazz and flamenco. Refreshments will be available to visitors. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for students. Glencairn is located at 1001 Cathedral Road at Route 232 in Bryn Athyn.
