Renaissance vocal ensemble to open Glencairn Museum’s holiday season

Glencairn Museum in Bryn Athyn will open its holiday season Dec. 7 with tours of the 10-story Romanesque-style mansion, a stained glass ornament project and a selection of medieval and renaissance carols by vocal ensemble Bloom Consort.

Tours of the former home of industrialist Raymond Pitcairn, known for its stained glass, mosaics and intricate wood carving, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. At 4 p.m., Glencairn’s Great Hall will be filled with the sounds of medieval and renaissance carols, courtesy of Bloom Consort which has been performing music of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries since 1987. Its repertoire includes Madrigals, Motets, Lute Songs and Chansons in English, Latin, French, German, Italian and Spanish. The mood, the group says, ranges from “serious to silly, with an occasional surprise.”

Bloom Consort’s artists include: Anne Stevenson Smith, soprano; Kristine Allen, soprano; Chris Mudge, mezzo soprano; Karen Lombardi Ingle, mezzo soprano; Jane Burt, alto; Gene Schneyer, tenor; Lee Geizentanner, tenor; Carl Shinko, tenor; Fuller Runyan, bass; and Dwayne Heisler, bass.

Also on the agenda that day will be a stained glass ornament project for young and old (???), to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in ????? Any further details????

On Dec. 16, Glencairn will continue a tradition begun by Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn in 1937 by hosting a holiday concert 8 p.m. in the Great Hall. The evening will feature audience caroling, soloists and a performance by the "Glencairn Horns" from the Philadelphia Orchestra featuring David Bilger, trumpet; Blair Bollinger, bass trombone, Eric Carlson, trombone; Randy Gardner, horn, and Daniel Williams, horn.

Admission for both events is $8 for adults; $4 for museum members and students; children 5 and under free. Information: 215-938-2600, www.glencairnmuseum.org.
